WHAT DO OTHERS THINK?

We searched for people between 19 and 29 years old. Most of them were 19 years old as you can see in figure 1.

We ask where they are from and most of them are from central states of Mexico like Puebla, Veracruz, Hidalgo and the State of Mexico. You can see the specific states in figure 2.

Our public told us theirs perspective on what poverty is , the majority of them said that poverty is the lack of basic needs in order to live.

One interesting answer was » At first glance, a lack of material resources that makes survival difficult. But there’s also a spiritual poverty, where people who have a lot of material belongings but lack a deeper sense of life » (Anonymous,2019) . A clear image that represents the basic human needs is in figure 3.

In most of their opinions the best way to help the poor is teaching them how to gain a living through work , this comes hand in hand with education.

«As a member of a privileged society I can donate money. However, there are more aspects to poverty than just the lack of resources – it affects people in many areas of life, especially psychologically. Therefore I could partake in any attempt of reaching the poor as a social group, soup kitchens etc.» (Anonymous, 2019) . This was one of the answers that we got and it talks about how poverty does not just stop in the physical resources

In figure 4 we can see that Diabetes is one of the most known diseases but HIV and MALARIA can still be known to people.

Our question was if they knew anyone with at least one of these diseases. More than 15% knows at least one person that has one of these diseases as you can see in figure 5.

We showed them this video and they gave us their opinion on it, some said that they were not aware of such poverty in the American continents, or at least had not stopped to search more about it. Most of them agree that there are ways to help these people.

«It made me sad to see, but also surprised; the problems of disease and malnutrition in South America is not something that I was very aware of. It feels unfair that I have a lot of resources and they don’t .» (Anonymous, 2019) This quote says that we have a lot more than the people than live in poverty even if we are not wealthy.

All the people we ask are interested in knowing more about poverty and how to lower the percentage of poverty.
